I am very frustrated with the NMIN-0021A. I bought the thing and cant get it to connect to the computer. I have an RS-232 Straight THrough cable, i am using Hyperterminal with 9600 Baud, no parity, etc. I get nothing when the thing is connected! I did all the checks on the board listed in the troubleshooting and it seems to work. Those of you that used this board and actually gotit to work, please share what you did and what version of windows you used. I am just an ametuer Engineering student doing this for a design project so i am not trying to do anyhting super complicated. Thanks

Here is a wiring diagram of DB9(Female) to DB25(Male) serial cable should look like this,

------DB9F--------DB25M

PIN----3<----------->2
PIN----5<----------->7

I looked over the RS-232 cable and the wiring is okay. Still i get nothing when i try to connect using Hyperterminal. Is there a version of Windows that works better for this? Is there another program i have to use? Please Help me! Thanks

Is there another program i have to use?

The only program you need is the Terminal Program such as Hyperterminal, or NMITerm (download here) to talk to your NMIN-0021A.

If you have the working serial cable, and the terminal program setup correctly,
comport: 1, 2, 3, etc...
baudrate: 9600
Data bit: 8
Parity: None
Stop bit: 1

then all you have to do is Plug & play
No external power but the DB9F to DB25M serial cable requires if your PC serial connection is a DB9M.
Each time a reset button is pressed, it will display message "Max-FORTH" or "Buffalo monitor" on the screen.

I just curious, what is your PC Operating system? Win9x, 2000, NT, XP?

What type of serial connection you have on your PC? Is it DB9Male, or DB25Male?

Did you make your own serial cable? If so, please verify the wire connections?

How did you configure your Hyperterminal setting?

well, i am using Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition, the computer has a DB9 Male Serial Connection, and the cable has been verified like you posted in the previous message.

As far as hyperterminal is concerend, i opened up a new connection, connected directly to COM 1, set the baud rate, parity etc as indicated, and i am getting a message that the terminal is connected. But when i hit the reset nothing comes up. I am very sure the board is working fine because i did all the tests in the Troubleshooting guide.

Sorry, i left out pins 4, 6, 7, 8 on the previous drawing. These pins are provided the power to the NMIN-0021A from the PC serial signals.

Here is a wiring diagram of DB9(Female) to DB25(Male) serial cable,

------DB9F--------DB25M
PIN----2<----------->3
PIN----3<----------->2
PIN----4<----------->20
PIN----5<----------->7
PIN----6<----------->6
PIN----7<----------->4
PIN----8<----------->5
