Hello,
I was just wondering if it is possible to make a simple interface/program to connect the DSP to a PC using USB.
Do you have any suggestions?
Thank you,
Jean-François

Jean, Are you looking for a USB to serial Converter? or Terminal program for USB interface such as Hyperterminal or NMITerm? or some sources of USB programming interface protocol?
By the way, what DSP product do you have and programming language you are working on?

Hello,
I'm currently working with a ServoPod and a MiniPod.
I don't really like IsoMax so I use standard C to program the DSP.
I work with either C++ or VB for the computer code.
For now, I'm happy with the serial com interface. However, many laptop users do not have any serial port. I'm just looking around to find ideas and to know what is possible to do, and what is not.
I heard that it was possible to use a USB2DB9 wire converter, but I'm wondering how to implement that with the DSP and/or in Windows. Are there any other ways so that the user will only "see" the USB port?
Thank you,
Jean-François

Salut J-F
Les convertisseurs USB à série ajoutent des ports de communication à ton ordi (COM). Tu n'as qu'à initialiser ton logiciel de communication sur le nouveau COM. Certains logiciels vont limiter le nombre de com à 8.

Hello,
C'est la seule chose que j'ai à faire? C'est aussi simple?
Don't I have any code to add in the DSP to consider the fact that the com protocol is different? Interesting... Merci beaucoup...
What are the maximum communication speeds available from a DSP to a computer? JTAG, Serial, Parallel, USB, Other?
Thank you,
Jean-François

Jean-François L,
NMI is already planned to have a USBPod ('Pod with USB interface) in the near future. For the current Pod products, you can use the USB to serial converter cable to talk to the Pod. Most USB converter cable comes with the drivers support on CD. It is now very common and easy to get. So all you need is installed the driver and when you run the Terminal program such as NMITerm or Hyperterm, the 'Pod will talk with the default configuration, 9600 baud, 8N1 and you can start to work interactively with IsoMax language.
The Maximum speed of the RS-232 chip onboard can handle is up to 115,200 baud. 1Mbaud will require different RS-232 chip to install and a special order is required.

Hello again,
Thank you for all the information. It was exactly what I was looking for.
I'll be waiting to hear from the USBPod. When is it planned approximatly to be available?

Approx. 6 to 8 weeks if things are going smoothly. Currently we are working on an ARM board which has the USB interface on the second serial port.
