View Full Version : Err when assembling leds803.c?
I was able to compile, assemble and load leds803.c when I used the vec805.asm during assembly, but I have not been able to assemble using vec803.asm.
I get the following output:
...
86 symbols, 563 instructions, 75 data words, 4 errors
...
Any idea what I have to do to get it to work?

DSP803 & 805 CPU has the same memory map. So vec805.asm can be used for both CPU's.
BTW, i just downloaded the latest Small C from http://petegray.newmicros.com and i don't see the vec803.asm file. So i assumed You may have the old file by any chance.
The vec803.asm was in the SC_starter_803.zip file that downloads when you pick "803EVM Example" from the Downloads menu.
Should I use the vec805.asm file?
It is very far from clear what is the latest on your site. I fought with a "driver not installed" issue for a few hours last night until I found that the jtag epsilson was better than the one you get when you download via the "Downloads - Whole Package - DOS/Windows" option.
My board came in the mail with nothing but a schematic. I am noodling through things bit by bit, but I don't like the tone of your message implying that I must have done something wrong by having an old version -- without hours of digging around how am I to even find out I HAVE an old version?
Some clear instructions on how to get the latest and greatest (and only the latest and greatest) would be helpful.

I am noodling through things bit by bit,
Just in case if you missed the manual on NMI website,
http://www.newmicros.com/cgi-bin/store/order.cgi?form=prod_detail&part=NMIN-0803-H3
but I don't like the tone of your message implying that I must have done something wrong by having an old version
I am sorry if you misunderstood me. I wasn't mean to.....
The vec803.asm was in the SC_starter_803.zip file that downloads when you pick "803EVM Example" from the Downloads menu.
The 803EVM example code was provided by C Evans as Pete noted on the front page So i can't speak for that, sorry.
Should I use the vec805.asm file?
Please use the file that Pete included in the whole package on the download section.
I looked around for a manual too believe it or not.
I am sorry but I didn't know to look on the NMI-0803-H3 page for the manual for the NMI-0803-H6.
I sound more bitter than I am, but it IS a bit fustrating.
I am working through it. The hardware itself seems pretty solid. I am sure I will be happy in the end.

Joe,
generally speaking, EVM's are what Motorola name their evaluation boards - so, something with an EVM suffix will be designed to be used with Motorola's boards. The EVM zipped package was contributed, and not part of the regular "examples".
Both versions of the JTAG utility are provided because some folks have difficulties using one, and some have difficulties using the other.
Just to clarify, the vec805 files should be used for NMI's 803-based boards, as detailed in the Assembler FAQ which is also available from http://petegray.newmicros.com
If you have any other questions, feel free to email me directly.
Regards,
-Pete.
