I have problems connecting to this device through the serial port. LCD Panel has visible crystals when powered-on -- BASIC EPROM and RAM is pre-installed and is "Ready to go". I have had a connectivity failure on 3 different computers. On one computer the device actually caused problems with the keyboard such as rrrrrrrrepeating keys and lost keystrokes, both in and out of the terminal program...
Please advise

BTW I am using a straight-through cable -- actually I've used two different straight-through cables and still I get the same problem.

what board do you have? Did you make your own serial cable or it comes with it. What about the power supply and transformer, etc... and what terminal are connecting to?
Please email with detail info to nmitech@newmicros.com for faster response.
It's NMIY0031 that I'm borrowing from work.
The cable is a straight-through RS232 DB9 cable with a 10-pin dual-row header.
I'm running the supplied terminal program -- maxterm. I've tried COM1, COM2, COM3 and COM4. Is there any special connection sequence? Also the BASIC EPROM and memory was preinstalled. It should run "as-is", shouldn't it?

BTW One cable I made here at work -- the other I "borrowed" from a piece of equipment.
The power-supply came with the kit and it was checked with a scope and is working properly.

NMIY-0031 system booting requirements:
- If the Monitor eprom installs on U2, it does not require any external ram to boot. The manufacture default configuration U2 is installed Monitor eprom, and U3 installed 8 k-byte sram.
- If U2 is installed with Basic31 eprom, it requires additional 32K ram installs on U4 to boot up. U3 is for eeprom device (optional). This is not manufacture default configuration. Unless you request to setup for this configuration at the time of ordering.
- Forth eprom installs on U2 requires 32K ram on U4 and the special Gal just for Forth application must be install on U9 socket.
You must configure the memory jumper accordingly to the size of the memory device that is not original manufacture default device setting.
