View Full Version : Using RS232 on ISOPOD-X with RS485

My Isopod-X has the optional RS-485 chips. It also has the RS-232 chips still on it.

Is it possible to use RS-232 instead on SCI1? without pulling off some chips?

By default, IsoPodX configures for RS-232 on both SCI0 & SCI1. Optional configuration SCI0(RS-232) and SCI1(RS-422/485) is only available per special request. This requires additional part(s) install on U3 & U4 and a few cuts. So I assume your SCI1 is already configured for RS-232 instead of RS-485.

Just to makesure, if your IsoPodX has Max3483 chip installs on U4 and you want to use SCI1 for RS-232 configuration it does require some works, either remove the Max3483 chip and reconnect the SIN1 & SOUT1 line back, or leave the Max3483 and make couple cuts on the outputs of the RS_485 chip, and also reconnect the SIN1 & SOUT1 line back. If your IsoPodX does not have anything install on U3 & U4 solder pads then it is configuring for RS-232 interface

Well, I thought I had it - I had unsoldered and pulled up 2 pins on U4 (pins 5 & 6) and set PD3 High.

Then I noticed 2 tracks were cut, SIN1 and SOUT1. If I can solder to those, I'm set.

It maybe easier to solder two wires on the solder side from the feedthroughs locate above pin 1 of J3 and connect to pin 7 and 9 of J2 rather than trying to reconnect those cuts. Just a thought!

Yep, I found the vias and soldered in some 28AWG solid wire and got it working. Thanks.
