I bought a psyscope button box from New Micros last month.
It will not work with either of my two powermacs (a performa
and a G3) although it works with an older mac, a IIci.
I wonder if other people have had this problem, and what can
I do?
Catherine,
The button boxes should work with any MAC. For the newer models you will need a USB/232 conversion cable which is available through several third party vendors. You may be able to get some additional info from Carnegie Melons Psyscope web page.
Thanks,
The button box works with ALL Macs produced since about 1995. We have lots of people using G3s and Performas. The button box and PsyScope might even work with the old Mac Classic, but no one has any left for me to verify this.
The only issues one has to worry about are:
On Powerbooks, one has to often turn off Apple Share when running the button box.
Mac OS X will not work for PsyScope — probably ever.
For the newer Macs with no serial port, one has to provide a serial port adaptor. There are notes on the PsyScope page http://psyscope.psy.cmu.edu about this.
Few people use really old operating systems any more, such as 7.5, so testing these is also difficult.
