Connecting with msp-fet430UIF
I am trying to connect with my msp-fet430UIF debugger to the mini430. It connects to the pc via usb. I have necessary 4 wire jtag target connector to the tini430 identified. but the 3 volt Vcco drops out when connected to the tini430. I ran the debugger and it confirms with an insufficient voltage (1.5v) message. I initially tried to run the debugger w/o the 6v supply and the blinking lights program ran off the debugger when it connected. So I tried to reload the program. Thats when the issue started. Now the blinky program only runs when the 6 v supplied on the J1 connector and the voltage out of the UIF drops.
I would also like to see the pin assignment on the parallel connector of the jtag cable. This may help me identify the issue. Thank you, Eric |

If I understand, you have wired the JTAG connector on our board to a TI JTAG that connects via USB. Do I have that right?
I was a bit concerned at your comment about "necessary 4 wire jtag target connector to the tini430 identified". My sense of it would take more than 4 wires. VDD, GND, TDI, TDO, TCLK, TMS, RESET. I see it as seven wires. Our production guy told me he was wondering why you didn't buy our JTAG, as most people do with the 430 board. The schematic is provided, so you can look at our JTAG wiring pin assignments as you please. http://www.newmicros.com/store/prod.../Tini430sch.pdf Not we had some left over port lines we routed there as well, which may normally just be repeated GND on other JTAG connectors. |

<I was a bit concerned at your comment about "necessary 4 wire jtag target connector to the tini430 identified". My sense of it would take more than 4 wires.> yes, I have a USB, 4 wire is the terminology when TDI and TDO are on separate lines. 2 wire they are on the same. I have all seven connected VDD, GND, TDI, TDO, TCLK, TMS, RESET. I see it as seven wires. <Our production guy told me he was wondering why you didn't buy our JTAG, as most people do with the 430 board.> Yes, I was thinking about purchasing the parallel, but already had the programmer and seems everything is moving towards USB. Also there's a certain amount knowledge one gains by the process instead of plug and play.l <The schematic is provided, so you can look at our JTAG wiring pin assignments as you please. http://www.newmicros.com/store/prod.../Tini430sch.pdf> I saw that, but I'd like to see what components are associated with the parallel port and its pin assignment. I'll probably end up buying one but I'd still like understand the "black box". In regards to using your parallel jtag cable. Will the preloaded "blinky" program run when its connected to the tini430? Or do i have to connect the external voltage to JI? I noticed my debugger will run blinky an light the leds with 6mA current until I try to connect with IAR. then the debugger senses something and adjusts the VCCo to 1.5 or less volts and the current draw through the debugger rises to 22 mA. |
